Metric Live ReviewIt's no secret that Toronto audiences are the most unenthusiastic motley crew of concert goers out there. The too-cool-to-dance demeanor and lackluster applause seems routine at many shows around the city on any given night. However it seems that there's one band that can break the spell on Toronto's audience of the living dead. Metric took the stage at the first of their two sold out shows at the Kool Haus to a deafeningly enthusiastic response. Launching straight into Live it Out, for the next hour and a half, Emily Haines and company owned the stage with their infectious dance-rock. Nov. 29: Black TuesdayShakira- Oral Fixation: Like that hot little number by the bar who looks like a goddess until she opens her mouth and actually starts to voice her inane and usually drunken thoughts (or lack thereof), this Colombian dish would be best seen and not heard. With a vocal reminiscent of a 40 year old hungover chain smoking new jersey truck stop waitress singing through the hole in her trachea, whoever signed Shakira as a vocal artist instead of a silent- let's emphasize silent- model, should have their genitals doused in gasoline and dragged over glass. Dillinger Escape Plan LiveProg-rock, mathmetal, jazzcore, metalcore- it's impossible to fit the Dillinger Escape Plan into a single genre. That didn't matter to the sold out crowd at the Opera House November 9th. From the minute the band hit the stage and launched into "Baby's First Coffin", the venue seemed to shake on its foundation from the reaction of the rabid audience. The band's energy was over the top as lead singer Greg Puciato managed to launch himself straight into the crowd while screaming into his mic before the first song had even ended.
